Student Behavior Log

It is official, my favorite time of the year is here.  Cool temperatures, football on the TV, and my wonderful husband is making chili for supper!  So, this will be short and sweet...

Since I am a special education teacher I spend a quite a bit of time on behavior and behavior management.  In addition, part of the research I am doing this year focuses on behavior so I made a different behavior chart to use this school year to help me keep track of the behaviors my students are displaying throughout the school day and the consequences to their behaviors.

Personal Portfolios

This school year I plan on having my students maintain a Personal Portfolio throughout the school year.  This portfolio will include information about the student, picutres, work samples, writing samples, field trips, and anything else we feel should go in the portfolio.  I hope this will help better document the progress my students make throughout the school year since it is typically not the progress you see with their grade level peers.

Parent Communication Log

Student Strengths Profile

I just wanted to share one more form I plan to send home to the parents/guardians of my students this summer.  This form is adopted from Kluth, P. & Dimon-Borowski, M (2003) Strengths & Strategies Profile.  I have asked parents/guardians to come up with at least 20 strengths, gifts, interests, or talents for their child. 

So much of special education is about what a child cannot do, not what a child can do.  So I decided that this school year we are going to start out on a positive note and start with what each student can do.  This will be a great opportunity to get to know my students better and hopefully learn about some of the things they can do outside of school or things they enjoy that I might not ever find out.

Summer Welcome Letter

I finally finished my welcome letter to my students and their families that I plan on mailing home next week.  I also included a student information sheet for the parents to fill out.  Being a special education teacher I do not typically receive a copy of parent/student information so this year I decided to send home my own sheet.  Hopefully this will save me time and energy during the school year when I am trying to locate a student's contact information.  I have attached the letter and information sheet for you to download, all I ask is that you follow my blog and leave a comment.  Thanks and enjoy!
